I love Mumbai,it throws a lot of challenges at me everyday. What i like about this place is that people try to squeeze as much of your time, space and mind as possible. It's a city where people expect a lot from you;yeah even strangers!!Some of my outstation friends complain that the people here are heartless. But i guess we all are doing a lot of things to facilitate each other in our own little ways. You cant expect someone to show his/her heart when he/she is standing on one foot in a crowded train. The same woman who stepped on your foot and dint care to say a sorry in the morning might be seen offering her seat to a girl much younger than her after sitting through half of her journey.
My examples might revolve a lot around Railways because what the heck,i travel 3 hours per day by train, meaning 4 days in a month i spend in train.Believe me i have seen crazy fights happening out of nothing in the mornings.I dont know whether it is because of the logic that people become softer by heart in evenings,i have seen them doing unexpected unspoken favours to others.Like smiling at someone(ok that was excess of sarcasm)..but believe me strangers become friends so easily. Then there will be people who have no relation with you whatsoever, but from one look at you they decide you had a bad day and offer you a seat. This can happen in no other city but mumbai.
There is nothing we do because our heart says so,its because we get into other person's shoes only when possible or convinient to us(and thats the best thing one can do for other in this mad city).
Selfish? Naah.
Self-centered? Yes.You got to be if you want to survive here.
